What’s Next? A Glimpse Into What God Is Calling Me to Do

Trusting God with the Future He’s Preparing

Over the past few years, my life has been a testament to God’s faithfulness. From navigating the pain of addiction and homelessness to experiencing His healing and restoration, I have seen how obedience and trust in God can lead to unimaginable growth. The journey hasn’t always been easy, but every step has brought me closer to understanding His heart.

I don’t have it all figured out. I’m still a work in progress, learning to lean on God daily. Recently, I’ve taken a significant step by getting connected with a Christian counselor who will walk with me through the process of becoming free from the trauma I’ve carried. It’s humbling to acknowledge how much healing I still need, but I know that God’s grace is sufficient for every step.

Lessons in Obedience, Humility, and Trust

One of the most humbling lessons I’ve learned is that obedience often means stepping into the unknown. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, "Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight." Letting go of control and believing that God’s plans are higher than mine has been a daily surrender.

There have been moments when I wanted to rush ahead, convinced I knew what was best. Yet, each time I slowed down and sought God’s guidance, I found clarity and peace. When I rushed ahead, I often found myself growing distant from God. My heart would become restless, and my spirit unsettled. I’d have to step back, repent, and reorient myself in His word. I have a tendency to want things now, to push forward before the time is right. Learning to wait on God is a struggle for me, but every time I pause and trust in His timing, I’m reminded of His grace and goodness. Slowing down allows me to see more clearly how His plans are far better than mine, and it deepens my sense of peace in knowing that He’s in control.

Humility has also played a significant role in this journey. Recognizing that my strength comes from God alone has reshaped how I view both my struggles and my victories. I’ve come to see that humility isn’t about thinking less of myself but thinking of myself less. It’s about acknowledging my dependence on God and celebrating His work in my life.

Through it all, I’ve learned that trusting God is not about having all the answers but about resting in the One who does. Isaiah 41:10 reminds us, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."

A New Chapter Unfolding

Now, as I step into a new season, I sense God calling me toward something that stretches and challenges me in beautiful ways. Without revealing too much just yet, I can say that it involves both personal growth and opportunities to serve others. My husband and I are excited to embark on this adventure together, leaning on God’s guidance every step of the way.

Jeremiah 29:11 reminds us, "For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." Holding onto this promise gives me the courage to take the next steps with confidence.

This new season has also required a willingness to be flexible. God's plans don't always look like what we expect, and I’m learning that’s okay. I trust that as long as I stay close to Him, He will lead me exactly where I need to be. One of the greatest blessings in this season is walking alongside my husband. We are both navigating these changes together, and I’m so grateful for the opportunity to grow alongside him. His resilience, strength, and faith inspire me daily, and I truly believe that God is using this time to not only deepen our individual faiths but also to strengthen our marriage. We've had to lean on each other more than ever, and in doing so, we are learning to support and encourage each other through every step. Our shared journey through this season is teaching us patience, trust, and the importance of rooting our relationship in God’s love. I can see how God is using this time to refine both of us and prepare us for what’s ahead, together.

What Might God Be Calling You to Do?

Perhaps you, too, are in a season of uncertainty or transition. I encourage you to pause and seek God’s voice. Reflect on where He has brought you from and the ways He’s been shaping your heart. God’s calling is often revealed in the quiet moments of prayer and reflection.

Consider the passions and desires God has placed within you. Maybe you feel called to serve your community, pursue a career that aligns with your values, or simply deepen your relationship with Him. Remember that His plan is not a one-size-fits-all template. He created you uniquely, with a purpose that only you can fulfill.

Romans 8:28 assures us, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose." No matter where you are, trust that He is weaving together every experience for your good and His glory.

If you’re unsure of your next steps, spend time in prayer. Ask God to reveal His will for your life. Surround yourself with people who will encourage and support you on your journey. And don’t be afraid to take small steps of faith, knowing that God will meet you there.

A Call to Action

As I continue down this path, I invite you to journey alongside me. Reflect on your own story and consider how God might be calling you to step out in faith. What dreams has He placed on your heart? How can you trust Him more deeply in this season?

Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments. Let’s encourage one another as we seek to follow God’s leading. And remember – the best is yet to come.

With love and faith,
Jessica
