To the One Who Feels Unworthy of God’s Love: This Is for You
Finding Your Worth in God’s Unfailing Love
When I Felt Unworthy of God's Love
There was a long time in my life when I ran and refused to believe that God loves me. This belief stemmed from my abandonment issues and the shame I carried since childhood. The time in my life where this belief affected me most was when I was 16-21 years old. From tumultuous foster home placements where I was afraid to get close to anyone to the paranoia and restless nights on the streets, I grew up with a very low sense of self-worth. This negative view of myself, alongside the lie I believed—that I was unlovable—led me to be pulled in every direction by influences that did not have my best interest at heart.
As I searched for external validation, my standards continued to lower regarding who I allowed to provide me with that validation. I sought acceptance from people who didn’t truly care for me, and in doing so, I often found myself in situations that reinforced my belief that I was worthless. I thought love had to be earned, that I had to prove my value in order to be accepted. The idea of an unconditional love—one that I didn’t have to work for or deserve—felt impossible to grasp.
God’s Grace and Unfailing Love
But God, in His infinite mercy, was pursuing me even when I was running. In the moments when I felt the most unworthy, when I had convinced myself that I was beyond redemption, He showed me otherwise. He reminded me that His grace is not dependent on my past, my mistakes, or my brokenness. One of the most powerful scriptures that reassured me of His love was Romans 8:38-39:
"For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord."
This verse became an anchor for me. It reminded me that nothing—absolutely nothing—could separate me from the love of God. Not my past. Not my mistakes. Not my deepest shame.
Another scripture that brought healing to my heart was Isaiah 43:1:
"Do not fear, for I have redeemed you; I have summoned you by name; you are mine."
God calls us His own. We belong to Him, not because of what we have done, but because of who He is. His love is not something we have to earn; it is freely given.
You Are Loved—A Message for You
If you are struggling with feeling unworthy of God’s love, I want you to know that you are not alone. I have been there. But the truth is that God’s love is not based on how good we are—it’s based on how good He is. No matter what you have done, no matter where you have been, He still calls you His beloved. You are deeply loved, cherished, and pursued by a God who will never give up on you.
A Call to Action: Embrace His Love
So if you are feeling unworthy today, take heart. Lift your eyes to Him, because He is waiting with open arms. His grace is sufficient. His mercy is new every morning. And His love for you will never, ever fail.
I encourage you to reflect on the moments when you felt unworthy and ask God to reveal His grace, mercy, and unconditional love to you. Meditate on scriptures that remind you of His deep love, and let His truth replace the lies you may have believed about yourself.
